The Man, The Myth, The Legend
Robert “Bobby” Hoagland

Bobby would like to let us all know that his work here is done. On November 24, 2020 he fought his last battle with such courage, and as we all know only the unknown could have defeated such a man.

Bobby's story started with the love of two wonderful people Margaret Chase and Charles Hoagland. He was born on March 21, 1937 in Windham, NY, the youngest of five children.

Bobby’s commitment to his community has been immeasurable. He is a part of both the Tannersville Rescue Squad and the Tannersville Fire Department. He has been an active member for over 59 years, and the captain for nearly as many. He handles injuries (and worse) in a unique way. Bob’s gentle and caring manner gives patients a sense of security in being able to feel his knowledge and
expertise. As a lifetime fire and rescue volunteer he has responded to endless needs, both day and night: fires, automobile accidents, injuries, falls, and even deaths, at Kaaterskill and Platte Clove Falls, ice climbing accidents in the dark, in freezing conditions almost too difficult to bear. He has hiked the mountains in search for lost hikers, or even airplane crashes. Bobby does all this with a willing heart and never a complaint. Bobby has dedicated his life to helping people, in and out of his community. He is respected and loved by all who know him.

Bobby graduated high school in 1955 and wanted to pursue a career in the military, but was unable to serve due to a childhood medical condition. His work career included a variety of hardworking jobs. After high school, Bobby worked for years as an electrician. later worked as a carpenter and laborer at the New York. Police Camp in Platte Clove, followed by more than 20 years working as a laborer at a 130-year old private community in Elka Park.

Bobby has one child Annette who’s married to George, three grandchildren Tabitha, Tanya, Derek and four great grandchildren Zanaya, Zailany, Nacia and Levi, and nephews Doug, Nelson and Paul.

Gravesite services will be held at Maplewood cemetery at 11am December 1, 2020.

Bobby’s final request, instead of sending gifts or flowers he asks that all do the unexpected and do an unsolicited act of kindness for some poor unfortunate soul in his name.
