Ellen Lola (Hoose) Pierce
Beloved Mother, Grammy, Sister, Aunt, Cousin
Ellen Lola (Hoose) Pierce, 74, died Tuesday August 25, 2020 at Mount Sinai South Nassau in Oceanside, NY after experiencing multiple strokes.

Born April 13, 1946 in Catskill, NY, she was the daughter of the late Carlton H. Hoose and Cora K. Hoose.

Ellen Pierce enjoyed her many years as a cashier at Catskill Game Farm, as well as her work as a bookkeeper for Colonial Oil and Gas and working in the office at Hunter Mountain.

Ellen graduated from Hunter Tannersville Central School in 1963. Ellen most recently resided at Beach Terrace Care Facility in Long Beach, NY where she enjoyed her beach view and many visits from her family. Ellen very much enjoyed her 40th high school reunion and spoke about her memories of the mountaintop often. Ellen was a member of The Order of the Eastern Star in Hunter, NY and loved attending services at the Haines Falls Methodist Church.

Ellen Pierce is survived by her sisters Thelma Dean (Stephen) of Nassau, NY and Corinne Preziotti (Michael) of Point Harbor, NC; cousins Barbara Sox (Gordon) of Boone, NC and Coverly Chapman (Donna) of New Bern, NC; daughter Carrie Pierce Merlo (Christopher) of Rockville Centre, NY; son Michael G. Pierce (Vanessa) of Waterford, NY; six grandchildren Tyler, Michael, Victoria, Harley, and Jordynn Pierce and Jack Merlo; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ellen Pierce is predeceased by her brother Ronald Hoose and cousin Patricia Aimar.

Ellen’s family is working with Aston Basagic Funeral Home Hunter, NY, but due to COVID-19 precautions there will be no calling hours. A small service will be held graveside at Haines Falls Methodist Cemetery at 11:00am on Friday September 4th, 2020 (masks required). A memorial service is being planned for summer 2021.
