Jean F Slutzky passed away February 8, 2018 at her residence in Jewett, NY.  Jean was born in Lake Placid, NY on July 19, 1955. She was the daughter of Fredrick J Fortune Jr. and Betty Wharton Fortune. She graduated from Lake Placid High School and continued her education at NCCC in Saranac Lake.
She worked in the restaurant management business and was an interior decorator for Hunter Mountain and her private clients. She also worked for Disney. However, her true love was figure skating. She trained with Dorothy Hamill. She grew up in an Olympian family. She had such a passion for the sport that she taught and coached many young upcoming figure skaters and also became a judge for many figure skating competitions. She was a patron of the arts.
Jean had so much love for the place she lived, Hunter Mountain. She was an amazing skier and skied with her son Zachary and husband David, and extended family and friends. She was an ambassador to Hunter Mountain skiing with many famous people including Princess Diana.
Jean is survived by her husband David, her son Zachary and his wife Regean, her sister Joan Kassir and her husband Cal, their two daughters Lindsey and Marie of Virginia Beach, Va. Carol Gamayel Fortune and her husband Sam of NYC. Her brother FJ Fortune and his wife Cheri and children Jennifer, Tyler, Teagan and Elizabeth George Fortune and his wife Betty of Lake Placid, NY.
Jean was a strong advocate of saving animals, especially cats and saved hundreds of displaced, lost and injured animals. Please send donations in her name to animal shelters in your area.

Dear David and Zach,

Below is Jewish poem that I hope will help in your time of loss and will be of comfort to you in the future.

At the rising sun and at its going down, your will remember her.

At the blowing of the wind and in the chill of winter, you will remember her.

At the opening of the buds in spring, you will remember her.

At the blueness of the skies and in the warmth of the summer, you will remember her.

At the rustling of the leaves and in the beauty of the fall colors, you will remember her.

At the beginning of the year and when it ends, you will remember her.

When you are weary and in need of strength, you will remember her.

When you are lost and sick at heart, you will remember her.

When you have decisions that are difficult to make, you will remember her.

When you have joy we crave to share, you will remember her.

When you have achievements that were influenced by her, you will remember her.

For as long as you live, she too will live, for she is now part of you as you remember her.

And for all of us who knew Jeanie; for as long as we live, she too will live, for she is now a part of us as we remember her.

If life was fair and its length indicative of a person's worth, Jeannie would have lived a 1000 years. But passion, talent, tenacity, a generous heart and love of family, friends and animals were not enough to keep her with you. We share in your sorrow and that of your family. Be strong, Jeannie would have wanted it that way.

The style of jeans spread rapidly across the globe as any race and ethnicity would be seen wearing a pair of denim. From South America to Europe to Asia, jeans became the craze. Everybody was wearing jeans.
