Martha Hartman, 102, died of natural causes Monday, August
10 th at The Pines at Catskill.
Born October 26, 1917 to Bernard and Mayfred Marsaw Evans
near Redwood, NY. She was pre-deceased by her only brother,
Russell Evans. It is interesting to note that her life was sandwiched
between two global pandemics, and she survived both!
Martha was employed by the United States Postal Service in
Redwood, Lexington, and Hunter, NY. She was the Postmaster in
Hunter for a number of years and retired from there. She enjoyed her
retirement by traveling with the Mountain Top Golden Agers and
visiting with family and friends. She crocheted Afghans, lap robes,
and clothing for themed dolls. Martha donated a variety of handmade
goods to local benefits as well as constructing American flags for car
antennas.
Martha was pre-deceased by her husband, Edward J. Hartman,
and her son, Gene E. Hartman. Martha is survived by her son and
daughter-in-law, Vernon R. and Suzanne Hartman, of Tannersville,
NY. Another son, David R. Hartman (pre-deceased by his partner
Ruth O’Connell) lives in Hunter, NY. Her daughters are Polly
Hartman Jones (pre-deceased by her husband, Donald) who lives in
Watertown, NY and Kay Hartman Mitchell (pre-deceased by her
husband Robert S.) who lives in Catskill, NY. Her daughter-in-law
Linda (Mrs. Gene) Dingman Hartman resides in Redwood, NY. Her
many grandchildren and great grandchildren will miss her also.
Due to the existing pandemic, services will be curtailed.
At her request, memorial donations may be made to The
Hunter Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 181, Hunter, NY 12442;
The Tannersville Rescue Squad, 21 Park Lane, Tannersville, NY
12485; or the Hunter Library 7965 Main Street, Hunter, NY 12442.
To honor Martha, please support your United States Postal
Service.
Many thanks to the staff at The Pines at Catskill for the
wonderful care given to our mother in the most difficult of times.
